This data layer was developed by SJRWMD GIS Division staff in 1992 to serve cartographic purposes. It was derived from two coverages, called north waterbodies (nwb) and south waterbodies (swb), which were originally
digitized from 1:24,000 USGS topographic maps. Only major water features are present such as the Intracoastal Waterway and medium to large lakes and rivers. The Atlantic Ocean is represented by a large polygon which contains breaklines. These breaklines can be reselected out, or the coverage can be displayed with a lookup table to hide the breaklines.
August, 1996: This dataset was projected from Stateplane, East Zone, NAD 1927 to UTM, Zone 17, NAD 1983, 1990 Correction. This dataset was copied to double precision, and its processing tolerances were set to
District standard values.
March, 2002: This dataset was updated by removing extraneous lines and polygons, and leaving only the actual inland water boundaries. Some polygons were added to complete areas from the St.Johns River that were missing in the original layer.
