Abstract:
This dataset consists of digitized 1 foot contours from topographic maps with aerial photo background covering an area in the vicinity of the City of Daytona Beach (Purchase Order No. PO34782, PO35028).
Purpose:
This data set depicts elevation information about geographic features within the project area and is to be used for purposes defined by the St. Johns River Water Management District.

The horizontal positional accuracy of digitized contours is related with source data accuracy, and additional errors introduced in the digitizing process. According to margin information in source maps, their Positional accuracy for 1" = 200' scale photogrammetric mapping complies with National Map Accuracy Standards. Additional errors inherent to the scanning and digitizing process include: . scanning deformation . image registration (a total of 1,100 points were used for referencing 21 maps, with a Root Mean Square error of +/- 0.6 meters (+/- 2 ft)) . line tracing Final mapped data is referenced to UTM, Zone 17, HPGN Datum, units are METERS The positional accuracy of final mapped data was verified using available horizontal control points, by comparison of digitized coordinates, and coordinates from their National Geodetic Survey datasheets. Six control points were available in the project area, with differences ranging from 0.571 m To 1.895 m, with 1.33 m (4.4 ft) in average.

Grid points were converted from the source material projection system (NAD1927 StatePlane Florida East) to the final mapped data projection system (NAD1983 HARN UTM Zone 17N)

Image enhancement: It included color management (color filtering, color replacement, adjustments in the tonal curve) in order to improve the line recognition process.

On-screen contours digitizing / assign elevations: This process was partially automated, with some degree of manual on-screen digitizing. This was due to the fact that the grayscale aerial photo background made it difficult to separate contour lines for automatic contour generation. Attributes were also assigned during this process.

Quality Control and corrective editing: It included the following QC checks: 1. Topology validation to assure that lines were continuous and without gaps. 2. Attribute validation and completeness, through automated and manual checks. 3. Visual inspection of contours overlaid with source material, to assure digitizing accuracy.
