Abstract:
The 2000 (1998-2000) digital orthorectified quarter quad (DOQQ) images cover the entire St. Johns River Water Management District. Photography dates began in late 1998 through 2000 with the bulk of the photographs taken in 1999. These IR images are from the 1:40000 NAPP photography scanned at 1-meter resolution. The original images were resampled to two additional sets with 3-meter and 6-meter pixel sizes. Also, the extensive overlapping edges in the original images were trimmed (about 12 pixel overlap) during the resampling processing that was performed inhouse.
Purpose:
For Cartographic applications also acceptable for Landcover and landuse mapping.
Supplemental_Information:
The original DOQQ images are in USGS BIP format with 1-meter pixel size. The DOQQ images internet Download version are available as one zip file per quad; the zip file contains all four quarterquads in MRSid image format.. Users of this downloaded data may need to download the MrSid extension from LizardTech Corporation (R) at the following website: <http://www.lizardtech.com>. Three and six meter resolution version of these images are not available for download.

Accuracy Statement by USGS: Digital orthophoto quadrangles and quarter-quadrangles must meet horizontal National Map Accuracy Standards (NMAS) at 1:24000 Scale and 1:12000 sacle, respectively. The NMAS specifiy that 90 percent of the well-defined points tested must fall within 40 feet (1/50 inch) at 1:24000 scale and 33.3 feet (1/30 inch) at 1:12000 scale.

Accuracy Statement by USGS: The vertical accuracy of the source DEM must be equivalent to or better than 7 meters. The DOQ RMSE is the square root of the average of the square discrepancies. These discrepancies are the difference in coordinated (x and y) values derived by comparing the data being tested with values determined during aerotriangulation or by an independent survey of higher accuracy. All remaining inputs and processes (e.g., aerotriangulation control and methodology, scanner and sensor calibrations) used in digital orthophoto production must be sufficiently accurate to ensure that the final product meets NMAS specifications.

Process_Description:
AML's and C++ programs were developed to process the raw DOQ image data in one unified step. Each DOQQ is clipped, converted to BIL format, and resampled into 3-meter and 6-meter datasets. The statistical and dates information of each DOQQ image were also calculated and extracted.

Clipping method: A 12-meter overlap is reserved for each side of the DOQQ image to ensure proper closure. This 12-meter is translated to 12 pixels for the 1-meter images, 4 pixels for the 3-meter images, and 2 pixels for 6-meter images. The boundary information is extracted from the BIP file header for clipping.

Resampling method: Resampling from the 1-meter to 3-meter and 6-meter datasets was conducted using the averaging method instead of the nearest-neighbor. The 3-meter data image set was created from the 1-meter set, and the 6-meter set was based on the 3-meter dataset.

In addition, the full header of each DOQQ was extracted from the image binary file and converted to ASCII text which is stored as dqxxxxyy.txt together with the BIL image file. All information regarding this particular DOQQ image can be extracted from this text file.
